Taara Connect is transforming the way the world connects by using light to deliver high-speed connectivity where traditional infrastructure can’t. After proving the concept with Lightbridge Gen 1, Taara set out to create a more compact, approachable system with a new form factor: the Beam. Working closely with Taara’s internal engineering team we aimed to create a design that was a smaller and more refined system designed to make deployment simpler. 

 

The design team focused on creating a cohesive product. A lot of effort was put on incorporating the heat sinks into the form in a way that felt intentional rather than simply adding them as a functional feature. At the same time, user experience was at the core of the process. We created prototypes to ensure the unit was easy to handle and install when hundreds of feet up in the air along a pole. Beyond the core unit, we worked closely with Taara’s team on accessories, mounts, and cable interfaces, ensuring connections could be installed easily while wearing gloves and maintaining a reliable, watertight seal.

 

Behind the clean exterior was an equally rigorous mechanical engineering effort to make the design perform in the real world. Our engineering team developed the enclosure to be fully sealed and manufacturable as a cast aluminum part, while carefully managing tolerances to ensure critical internal components made proper contact with the housing for effective thermal transfer. Throughout development, the engineering team worked closely with industrial design to resolve manufacturing constraints, refine interfaces, and preserve the simplicity of the form. This close collaboration allowed us to push the design further while ensuring every detail was both functional and production-ready.
