Brand & Research

For Upstart’s inaugural product, a compact natural gas generator designed for residential use, Studiored provided end-to-end support across industrial design and mechanical engineering. Our design team explored a broad range of concept directions, taking into account installation environments, venting requirements, and brand identity. The final form strikes a balance between contemporary aesthetics and timeless appeal, with refined detailing and subtle brand accents. On the engineering side, we developed a robust sheet metal architecture optimized for manufacturability and streamlined assembly. We also engineered comprehensive gasketing solutions to ensure weather resistance, while maintaining intuitive access for maintenance. Additionally, we advised on high-performance material selections, such as heat-resistant plastics, to support hidden venting features without compromising the overall design intent.

Engineering Overview

Sheet Metal

Our mechanical engineers at Studiored collaborated closely with Upstart to optimize their sheet metal manufacturing process, ensuring precision and consistency in every part. This resulted in improved product assembly efficiency and durability.

Weatherproofing

Develop effective gasketing and sealing solutions that weatherproofed the unit against rain and extreme winds. We also engineered discreet air vents that function as hidden louvers, maintaining airflow without compromising the design.

High Temp Material Requirements

We supported Upstart in selecting high temperature-resistant plastics to ensure durability and performance. Because we had developed hidden vents, we used materials that preserved the original design intent while understanding thermal stress.
