Benign prostate hyperplasia (BPH) is the most common non-malignant tumor among older males. Although effective, surgical treatment is invasive and has a relatively high percentage of complications. This led to a search for simpler therapies such as Vidmed's TUNA (Transurethral Needle Ablation) system, a minimally invasive treatment that delivers low levels of radio frequency energy directly into affected tissue to treat the symptoms of BPH.
The Studio Red team worked closely with VidaMed to develop a design that would offer a significant improvement over existing devices. The device needed to be both easy and comfortable to use as well as intuitively functional.
The resulting VTS ProVu is a unique solution, comprising three components: reusable handle, disposable cartridge and rigid telescope. The ergonomically designed handle provides simultaneous needle deployment to a predetermined depth. The easy grip design maximizes operator comfort. Sensors in the cartridge monitor the procedure real-time. The integrated telescope is compatible with all medical-grade video systems and light sources. |
