Design Director/VP Design

Studio RED, a 27 year old product development consultancy seeks a world-class Designer Director or VP Design with a passion for finding customer-focused design solutions. This role includes Design Research as well as the Industrial Design programs.
This full time position will be directly responsible for the successful aesthetic outcome of multiple projects, working alongside a talented and diverse group of designers, fabricators, project managers and internal & external resources supporting these efforts. The Design Director is responsible for quoting, scheduling and supervising the efforts of the design team. This position oversees and guides concepts from research through design development that represent agreed upon scopes of work and adhere to the constraints of budget and schedule.
As part of our Design team, you are also responsible for producing concept sketches, refined Concept renderings of a wide variety of tech and non-tech products.
Responsibilities:
Participate in sales meetings to promote firm and quote projects.
Communicate with Client to interpret needs, problem solve and talk through foreseen issues, obtain approval on all Design Phases, and facilitate strong relationships.
Assign projects to Designers and communicate all pertinent information and interpretation of client's wants and needs.
In conjunction with the project managers, discern and verify needed deliverables and schedule working timeline for due dates.
Facilitate Design Phase meetings for all projects with Clients, Designers, and PMs.
Create and update weekly Design Department schedule showing designated Designers and hours included for each project.
Provide direction and help problem-solve fabrication issues while maintaining integrity of project and contracted scopes of work.
This position also requires:

Superior communication skills, capable of articulating and coordinating critical project details to a wide range of recipients.
Ability to proactively interact and communicate with clients, designers, engineers and CM’s and manage 2-3 team members.
Requirements:
a degree in Industrial Design
7+ years of experience working as a senior designer and/or design
manager
a portfolio which communicates meaningful design solutions
across products, services and experiences
the ability to manage and lead a diverse group of people
a proven ability to tell and visually communicate stories
a proficient command of 2D and 3D visualization tools
(i.e. sketching, PhotoShop, Alias, Rhino, etc.)
the ability to inspire and facilitate clients and team members
a passion for solving problems by making physical things
an unquenchable thirst for knowledge and a can do attitude
Complete knowledge of Illustrator and PhotoShop. Experienced with Alias, Rino, Office Suite, Acrobat
