Philip founded Studio RED in 1983 on the basic premise that great design and great engineering must go hand in hand. From that point on, Studio RED has built a reputation for getting more out of design. In the 25 years that Philip has worked in the design industry as a product development consultant, he has managed over 2,300 programs. Philip himself is the winner of the prestigious SMAU Product Development Award in Milan, Italy, for the Osborne 3 Portable Computer (marketed as the Zenith Z-171). Additional Studio Red design awards include iF Design Excellence Awards; Bronze IDEA’s ID Magazine Annual Design Review Honorable Mention; “Good Design Display “ at the Chicago Anetheum Museum; “Product of the Year” from Photonics Magazine; “Excellence in Design” award from Appliance Manufacturers; among other prestigious awards. Philip holds Design and Mechanical Patents for a wide variety of products. In addition to many articles published in trade magazines, he has been a speaker at events such as the Ninth Annual International Symposium of Industrial Design in Monterrey, Mexico and as a featured guest on the 3rd edition of the Small Business Development Invention and Development Guide Video. Philip has a B.S. in Industrial Design from California State University at Long Beach and is a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. He has been Co-Chair of the Bay Area Chapter of the Industrial Design Society of America and a member of the Knights of Columbus men’s society.
